The bbe Daphnia Toximeter observes daphnia under the
influence of running sample water. bbe developed a
sensitive method for detection of hazardous compounds in
waters from rivers (source water protection), plants,
distribution systems and manufactory drains to
preserve human"s health and to monitor the water. Sample
water (0,5-2 l/h) is continuously running through the
measuring chamber containing the daphnia. The life
pictures obtained with a CCD-camera are analysed online
with an integrated PC. A change in the movement of the daphnia is examined. If this change is statistically
