Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor, also referred to as FGF-2, is one member of a family of
growth factors that stimulate proliferation of cells of mesenchymal, epithelial, and
neuroectodermal origin. Members of the FGF family share 30-55% amino acid sequence identity,
similar gene structure, and are capable of transforming cultured cells when overexpressed in
transfected cells. rh-bFGF is recombinant bFGF with a histidine-tagged in the N terminal
expressed in E. coli.
